What we hear in the Gallery…

Art-Artist-PBuckleyMoss-CanadaGooseGallery-WaynesvilleOhio-LimitedEdition-Print-HomeDecor-Decorating-VirginiaArtist-Fish

When we have events in Waynesville and in our gallery, we always enjoy new people coming in to visit.  This past weekend during our “Back to the 80’s” event,  a lady stopped by and shared that she was a local resident of Waynesville and one of the things she and her son looked forward to during these past few months, was to take evening walks through downtown Waynesville. They loved checking out the window displays of the shops. She said he son was always so excited to see what art we had placed in our window.  He is just two years old and is already noticing what a difference art makes in life.  I love when people share experiences and glad that we are helping her son appreciate art; loving, growing and experiencing what art can do for our minds and soul.  One of our little visitor’s favorite displays was of a very large fish, Shimmering In The Depths
I thought it was amazing that such a small child looked forward to art. At only two years old, he’s already developing an appreciation for art images and looks forward to the joy it adds to everyday life. I thought of the blog from last year about how art is important to children. This blog remains one of our most visited pages of our website.

What Is a P. Buckley Moss Original?

Original Pieces of Art are One-of-a-Kind.Original Watercolor painting by P Buckley Moss of landscape featuring colors of light and darker aqua, earth tones, peach and pink for the sky and white spaces throughout. Bold Black Moss Trees.

An Original piece of art is the actual board or paper that the artist, P. Buckley Moss is painting on; premium art.
Original art works have texture and vibrancy because you can see the lines and strokes that her brush or pen is making.
Pat paints many original art pieces in various sizes and subjects. Canada Goose Gallery has the largest original art, in gallery collection, of original works outside of Pat’s personal portfolio so if there is something you would like to see, please reach out to me or Karen, our gallery assistant, for advice.
How Much Does Original Art Cost?
Although it’s a myth that “good art” has to be expensive, it’s true that an original piece may come with a higher price tag than a print. When you’re looking to invest in a piece, set your budget and we’ll advise and guide you through your purchase.
Keep in mind that Canada Goose Gallery has a lay-a-way option for purchases that may help you secure the artwork you love and want to add to your collection.

So, What is a Limited Art Print Edition?
A signed, numbered, limited art print edition is a copy of an original piece of art that is printed in a limited quantity. The original painting will always hold the highest value in any edition and will be the most sought after part
of the edition of art.

Most P. Buckley Moss art print editions are limited, in that Pat only releases a specific number of prints per edition. There are a few editions that are referred to as “Open” editions where the edition size is not set to a certain quantity and can be reproduced ongoing.

P. Buckley Moss Art Prints are now signed with a matrix of Pat’s original signature, where once Pat signed each and every print of every edition. [Note: Prints signed can be signed by Pat in person at our annual show, and on request from our Gallery] Prints prior to about mid 1994 were all signed by Pat’s own hand.
As each art print is signed, it is also assigned its own number and the quantity of the prints in any edition will always be noted on the print itself.
The number assigned to each print will normally be found along the lower edge. Look for something similar to 17/250.
The first number signifies the number assigned to that specific print while the second part of the number behind the “/” mark shows the number of prints in the edition. In this example 17 would
signify the print as being number 17 out of the edition size of 250 total prints.

Kentucky Derby Red Brings Out the Best in P Buckley Moss Art

PBuckleyMoss-art-limitededition-horse-Kentuckyderby-prints

It’s time to start planning your Run For The Roses gathering! I just love that expression and I love the Kentucky Derby.  All the hats and fancy dresses, tiny finger sandwiches, and of course, the excitement of the race!  I haven’t been, but it makes me happy to think of all the fun and excitement of being around horses.  If I had to pick a favorite that Pat Moss paints I would have to say that her horses are some of the most lovely and inspiring images to grace a wall.

P Buckley Moss Black and White Inspiration

Black and White.  There’s not much in life that’s strictly black or white. However, when talking about art, it really can be black and white and the proportions can be anything the artist wants them to be. The great thing about black and white art is the variety of light and darker shades that are created. No two pieces are alike and the interest and dimension of each work of art make the room feel completely different.

I remember, by chance, seeing one of Pat Moss’s black and white sketches while visiting her home many years ago. I was so taken by the strength and beauty of the art piece that it took my breath away. The lines and shading, simple as they were, made up a beautiful drawing that I have never forgotten. In fact, it is one of my personal favorites.

At that time, I had only known Pat’s works to be colorful and bold and here hung a sketch of a single cat whose expression and body language contained such a distinct attitude.  I stood gazing at the piece and drifted for a moment into a memory of a family cat many years before. I am always amazed at how an artist can portray such emotions in their subjects, and this one having just simple lines in black and white.  It’s a magical moment so let’s figure out how to display such works in your home too!

How do you decide how to pull together a mixture of subjects and styles when creating a gallery wall?

This black and white wall is an interesting mix of etchings combined with Giclee prints and a powerful silkscreen.  I love that all the subjects are different and yet share the black and white theme of its warm corner space.  It is a great opportunity to share with guests over a meal the wide array of art subjects and processes that can be hung on a wall and then appreciated like a gourmet meal!

The making of an etching is a hands-on process involving the work of an artist and an etching assistant who performs the printing mechanics. There is a craftsmanship that is remarkable and must be looked at up close to fully appreciate. Etching Collection plus for more details on the etching process click here

A Giclee print is an art image produced with the aid of a printer, guided by a digital file and the depositing of millions of tiny dots of ink on watercolor paper. This printing process results in a piece of art with a more brilliant array of colors than would normally be possible.  The Giclee process also produces images that are more stable, more durable, and less affected by light. Even in black and white these Giclee images appear to explode off the paper!

Screen printing is a printing technique whereby a mesh is used to transfer ink onto a substrate ( a layer underneath), except in areas made impermeable to the ink by a blocking stencil. A blade or squeegee is moved across the screen to fill the open mesh apertures with ink, and a reverse stroke then causes the screen to touch the substrate (layer) momentarily along a line of contact. This causes the ink to wet the underlying layer and then to be pulled out of the mesh apertures as the screen springs back after the blade has passed. It sounds technical for sure, but I am sure we all have memories of doing such screen printings on T-shirts as kids.

By combining all three of these processes – Etching, Giclee, and Screen Print– our gallery wall is now filled with texture that makes the observer want to get up and come closer to art.  This is the goal of any gallery wall you create in your home.  Allowing the beauty to embrace the observer in a moment or two of an experience like no other.

Hanging Art: Did you notice the unique hanging technique going on here? Imagining another way to incorporate art that you love in new visual display format.  Who says it all has to be even and eye level? Experiment! Think about introducing a matted image, clutched by a padded skirt hanger and hanging in the midst of your gallery wall. Make your guests get up and really look…”is that a..a.. hanger?”   Take a closer look at our kitchen corner wall!

Yes! Mix unique hanging applications with conventional framed art and see how you like it! It could be really fun and I know for sure it will make your beloved pieces of art more endearing. Let’s break the rules!

And here is something else to consider: adding your own family photos with your favorite collectible art pieces will make your gallery wall even more enticing and fresh. People buy art that reminds them of family experiences and memories so why not pair them together?  The story unfolds for all to see and enjoy.  Make your home memorable and fun!
