When the Holidays Feel Empty, Ornaments Help Bring Back What Matters

The year rushes by in a blur. Deadlines, obligations, worries
one stacked on the next until suddenly the holidays appear on the calendar like a surprise. And instead of joy, there’s that faint emptiness. A sadness you can’t quite name. Or maybe it’s nostalgia for something you once had — slower days, fuller tables, laughter that didn’t feel forced.

When the season comes around, many people try to fix that feeling by buying more. More gifts. More dĂ©cor. More “holiday spirit” from a store shelf. But most of it fades as fast as the year did. The sparkle is temporary, and the feeling you were trying to fill sneaks right back in after the tree comes down.

This is where ornaments offer something different.

frosty-family-christmas-ornament-box-p-buckley-moss

An ornament isn’t about size or price. It doesn’t promise excitement. It promises something quieter: connection. When you pull an ornament from a box, you’re not grabbing a decoration. You’re holding a piece of memory — maybe from last year, maybe from decades ago.

Love Brings You Home Ornament
Love Brings You Home Ornament

A delicate winter scene can make you pause long enough to remember who you once shared cold mornings with. A painted house can bring back the story of the first home you built, or lost, or dreamed about. A tiny bird on a branch can stir a memory you didn’t even know you were missing.

Humpback Bridge Ornament
Humpback Bridge Ornament

This is the gentle magic of ornaments. They slow you down without making life feel slow. They reconnect you to the people and moments that shaped you. They make you feel the season instead of just trying to get through it.

Blessed Winter Ornament

Collecting ornaments with intention changes the whole experience. You’re not just decorating a tree; you’re building a record of your family’s life. Each year adds one more piece to the story. A parent passing a special ornament to a grown child. A grandparent giving a small symbol of a tradition. A friend choosing a piece that marks a shared moment. These are the objects that outlive the rush of the season.

When the world feels chaotic or the holidays arrive with a dull ache instead of excitement, these tiny works of art hold us steady. They remind us of who we were, who we loved, and what we still hope for.

Maybe this year, instead of chasing the newest holiday trend, choose something that will matter ten years from now. Something quiet but meaningful. Something that brings back what the year took away — connection, memory, and the feeling that some things are worth holding onto.

Embracing the Beauty of Winter Exploring Winter Art by P. Buckley Moss v2
Jan 13, 2025

Winter has a unique way of transforming the world into a peaceful, quiet landscape. As snow falls gently, the world slows down, and everything seems to pause in a blanket of white. This time of year has been a great source of inspiration for many artists, but few have captured the stillness and serenity of winter quite like P. Buckley Moss. Known for her iconic winter scenes, Moss poured her love for the season into her work, often painting from her art studio as the snow gently covered the world outside. The result is a stunning collection of winter landscapes that speak to the tranquility and beauty of the season, bringing a peaceful calm into our homes.

At Canada Goose Gallery, we are proud to showcase some of Moss’s most beloved pieces that capture this serene winter atmosphere. From snowy fields to quiet country barns, each painting invites us to slow down, reflect, and embrace the quiet moments of the season. In this blog post, we will explore four beautiful pieces from her collection: All is Calm, A Snowy Day, Blessed Peace Remarque, and Colonial Winter.

CanadaGooseGallery-Waynesville-Ohio-pbuckleymoss-limitededition-print-art
All is Calm
One of Moss’s most serene and reflective winter works, All is Calm, is a perfect example of her ability to capture the peaceful stillness of the season. In this artwork, Moss portrays a snowy landscape devoid of hustle and bustle. The quiet snowflakes fall gently on a tranquil field, and the soft hues of the sky reflect the calmness of the world. This piece evokes a sense of serenity and peace, reminding us to take a step back from the noise of everyday life and embrace the calm that comes with the winter months. It’s a perfect addition to any home, offering a sense of stillness that helps us to relax and reflect.

A Snowy Day
In A Snowy Day, Moss takes us to a classic winter scene: a snow-covered path leading toward a charming home nestled among the trees. The delicate shades of blue and white fill the canvas, capturing the coolness of the air and the softness of freshly fallen snow. The winding path invites viewers to imagine themselves walking through the snow, enjoying the quiet beauty of a snowy day. The surrounding trees, their branches heavy with snow, add to the serene atmosphere, evoking a sense of peace and wonder that only winter can bring. This piece is a celebration of the simple pleasures of winter and a perfect reminder to appreciate the quiet beauty that surrounds us during the colder months.

Blessed Peace Remarque
Blessed Peace Remarque
Another stunning winter piece by Moss, Blessed Peace Remarque, is a beautiful depiction of the calm that comes with the season. The artwork features a snowy landscape with an inviting path that leads to a cozy home. What sets this piece apart is the special remarque feature—a hand-drawn sketch on the lower margin of the print, adding a personal touch to each piece. The tranquil colors of the snow-covered landscape are perfectly complemented by the delicate details of the remarque, which bring a sense of intimacy and warmth to the piece. Blessed Peace Remarque is a stunning representation of the peacefulness of winter, offering viewers a glimpse into a quiet world where nature and home come together in perfect harmony.

Colonial Winter
Colonial Winter is another beautiful example of Moss’s ability to capture the charm of the season. The artwork depicts a colonial-style home surrounded by snow-covered trees and a quiet, frozen pond. The warm tones of the building contrast beautifully with the cool blues and whites of the winter landscape, creating a sense of balance and tranquility. The scene is peaceful and inviting, offering a glimpse into a world where the hustle and bustle of life slow down, and everything is at rest. Moss’s use of light and shadow brings the scene to life, making it feel as though you could step right into the painting and experience the quiet winter world for yourself.

Starting Your Art Collection: Sketch Originals and Rare Pieces for the New Year

The New Year is a time for fresh starts and new passions. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or a first-time collector, starting your art collection is an exciting journey that allows you to curate pieces that resonate with your personal style and values. One way to make your collection stand out is by focusing on sketch originals and rare pieces—unique works of art that capture the soul and creativity of the artist in their most authentic form. In this post, we’ll explore why rare art and sketch originals are perfect for collectors and highlight a few exceptional pieces by renowned artist P. Buckley Moss to inspire your New Year.

Why Start Your Collection with Sketch Originals and Rare Art?

Sketch originals and rare pieces are treasures in the art world. Unlike mass-produced prints, these works are imbued with the artist’s raw emotions, intricate details, and creative process. Here are a few reasons why they are ideal for starting your collection:

1. Uniqueness and Exclusivity
Rare art and sketch originals are limited in quantity, making them highly sought after by collectors. Owning a piece like this means having something truly unique—an artwork that few others will ever possess.

2. Investment Potential
