What Is a P. Buckley Moss Original?

Original Pieces of Art are One-of-a-Kind.Original Watercolor painting by P Buckley Moss of landscape featuring colors of light and darker aqua, earth tones, peach and pink for the sky and white spaces throughout. Bold Black Moss Trees.

An Original piece of art is the actual board or paper that the artist, P. Buckley Moss is painting on; premium art.
Original art works have texture and vibrancy because you can see the lines and strokes that her brush or pen is making.
Pat paints many original art pieces in various sizes and subjects. Canada Goose Gallery has the largest original art, in gallery collection, of original works outside of Pat’s personal portfolio so if there is something you would like to see, please reach out to me or Karen, our gallery assistant, for advice.
How Much Does Original Art Cost?
Although it’s a myth that “good art” has to be expensive, it’s true that an original piece may come with a higher price tag than a print. When you’re looking to invest in a piece, set your budget and we’ll advise and guide you through your purchase.
Keep in mind that Canada Goose Gallery has a lay-a-way option for purchases that may help you secure the artwork you love and want to add to your collection.
“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.”

So, What is a Limited Art Print Edition?
A signed, numbered, limited art print edition is a copy of an original piece of art that is printed in a limited quantity. The original painting will always hold the highest value in any edition and will be the most sought after part
of the edition of art.

Most P. Buckley Moss art print editions are limited, in that Pat only releases a specific number of prints per edition. There are a few editions that are referred to as “Open” editions where the edition size is not set to a certain quantity and can be reproduced ongoing.

P. Buckley Moss Art Prints are now signed with a matrix of Pat’s original signature, where once Pat signed each and every print of every edition. [Note: Prints signed can be signed by Pat in person at our annual show, and on request from our Gallery] Prints prior to about mid 1994 were all signed by Pat’s own hand.
As each art print is signed, it is also assigned its own number and the quantity of the prints in any edition will always be noted on the print itself.
The number assigned to each print will normally be found along the lower edge. Look for something similar to 17/250.
The first number signifies the number assigned to that specific print while the second part of the number behind the “/” mark shows the number of prints in the edition. In this example 17 would
signify the print as being number 17 out of the edition size of 250 total prints.

More Time In 2020

Leap Day graphic featuring the frog images of P Buckley Moss.

1440 Extra Minutes?

With so much “time” on our hands one would think we could accomplish the impossible, right?
How do we spend our time? So many hours in our day spent worrying or busy with “busy” work. You know how that goes, we get up with the best intentions and then before we know it the day is over, the sundown, and it times to go to bed. Let’s think about time this week and make it special.
With a whole extra day, I challenge you to think about the things you enjoy in life. For me, it’s reading. A good book, a comfortable chair, and off I go to the far places of adventure and travel, or perhaps it is history that has caught my attention this week or poems. I rarely take the time and this week I shall reconsider how I spend every minute, of every day.
When I look at this image I am reminded of my grandchildren. Oh, they are too old for me to snuggle up and read a favorite story, but I am comforted in knowing that occasionally they too will curl up and read something! Well, as I am reminded every now and then, they do read, you know, things on their phones, articles, stories, blogs, even an occasional magazine.

What is it for you?  What will you do with your extra Leap Year minutes this week? Think about it and make it the gift it is intended to be….the gift of time!Let Art Inspire for Leap Year with the P Buckley Moss frog collection.

Frog Magic

Frogs are magical, time-traveling creatures. As they leap around us they travel through time reminding us to move toward what we desire in life. The symbolism of the frog appears in many traditions around the globe. It is generally associated with a transition which is why we see frogs in Leap years.

The frog is symbolic of:

  • Cleansing
  • Renewal, rebirth
  • Fertility, abundance
  • Transformation, metamorphosis
  • Life mysteries and ancient wisdom

Celebrate a 223rd Birthday with Limited Edition History Cards

History Matters

The History of Waynesville. One of the most fun projects I worked on last year was the collection of old photographs for the birthday of Waynesville. I went to the library and worked with the historian and to the Museum at the Friends Home and worked with several docents. Looked at pages and pages of images of this small town that blossomed through time, living moments of history.
Waynesville History Cards featuring the many historic buildings in Waynesville Ohio
We made the first series of cards and they were so well received by our visitors to town during our 222 Birthday Bash in 2019. Then we found so many new images!
Selling these cards is a labor of love! The total price is donated to the Waynesville Merchants Association so that we can continue to provide events that are fun for everyone. Come and check them out!

Original Art – P Buckley Moss Horse Watercolor Paintings

The horse is a symbolic image that has been incorporated in the works of many artists throughout the history of art. Contemporary artists like P. Buckley Moss are no exception. Moss has long included the image of the horse as part of her visual repertoire and iconography.

In art the horse represents nobility, grace and strength. In ancient times, it was often a symbol for the spoils of war and it was viewed as a mystical or spiritual being. An entire month of the Chinese Zodiac is dedicated to the horse with characteristics of chivalry, practicality, love, devotion and stability. The Celtic people saw the horse as a symbol of fertility, victory, long life and wealth. The Romans attributed the qualities of power and honor to the horse.

Moss’ horses represent a spirit of freedom characterized by flaring nostrils and flowing manes. Most of her horses are painted as individuals in a full frontal position looking eye to eye at the observer.

The horse depicted is painted in a modernist style and not the realistic depictions that many assume is the style-mark of art. This image is characterized by Moss’ line work producing a very organic looking image.  The lines appear as branches working throughout the image.  The golden color represents spiritual wealth and abundance.

The Suncatcher: P Buckley Moss Limited Edition Print

“Suncatcher”

The painting, Suncatcher, hung in the artist’s Waynesboro, Virginia home for many years. The home, a renovated apple packing barn, has for many years been the location of quarterly signings by the artist at her residence. The original watercolor is a very large painting, but when printed in 2010 was printed in three sizes as a giclée.

As with most Moss art, Suncatcher is replete with symbolism.  The golden landscape defined by the “Grand-Z” the z-shaped brushstrokes that are part of Moss’ trademark style, create multiple horizon lines.  Parts of the paper are left without pigment, referred to as negative space, is used to create the light within the image.  The golden hues are symbolic of spiritual wealth or abundance.  The church visible on the far horizon is a symbol of faith; the barn is a symbol of a traditional lifestyle and indicates the human element that is simply insinuated by the presence of the buildings.

Suncatcher
Issued in 2010. Giclée on paper.

The Suncatcher giclee is available in three sizes.
Small:  Image Size: 18 x 12 inches
Medium:  Image Size: 36 x 24 inches
Large:  Image Size: 60 x 39-7/8 inches

P Buckley Moss Still Life Watercolors

Painted by the artist’s own hand, this P Buckley Mos Original is a watercolor which, when purchased, can be named by the new owner and registered with the P Buckley Moss Portfolio.

Even today, the still life is not an image that Moss paints routinely and one with fruit is even more unusual.  This very Picasso-esque original demonstrates the influence of the modern masters on this very contemporary artist.  The flat geometric shapes that make up both the fruit and fruit bowl are very typical of Cubist imagery which used geometric forms to create images of natural shapes and planes.  Cubism was created by artists such as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque in the early 20th century and remains an influence on many artists today.

Using a muted color pallet, Moss creates a subtle image defined by shapes and lines.  This very small original watercolor is a true miniature; a tiny treasure for any collection.
