Timberneck by P. Buckley Moss

Content & Subject

Timberneck by P. Buckley Moss is a serene 2023 numbered limited edition giclée fine art print that captures the quiet grace of pastoral life set against a historic American landscape. This evocative composition belongs to the P. Buckley Moss Lamb Collection and the P. Buckley Moss Historic Landmark Collection, blending agricultural heritage with the soft renewal of the countryside.

In Timberneck, three gentle lambs stand in the foreground of a wide-open meadow, their wool rendered in soft whites that contrast beautifully against the tender greens and golden hues of early spring. Their dark faces and slender legs give them a delicate elegance, while their attentive stances suggest curiosity and quiet awareness. Moss positions them slightly turned, as if acknowledging the viewer’s presence, creating an immediate emotional connection.

Behind the lambs rests a stately historic farmhouse with a long porch and green shutters, its white siding glowing under a pale blue sky. A blossoming tree stands nearby, its pink canopy adding a subtle touch of seasonal color. The open landscape stretches calmly around the home, reinforcing themes of space, simplicity, and enduring rural tradition.

The title Timberneck references a historic area in Gloucester County, Virginia, known for its colonial roots and preserved landmarks. By situating her lambs within this historic setting, Moss weaves together themes of innocence, continuity, and American heritage. The land feels lived in yet timeless, echoing generations of farming families who once tended both home and flock.

Style & Technique

As a giclée fine art print, Timberneck preserves the softness and clarity of Moss’s watercolor-inspired technique. The giclée process allows the subtle layering of tones, fine ink outlines, and delicate shading to remain crisp and vibrant.

Moss’s folk-art aesthetic shines through in the elongated tree limbs and simplified architectural lines of the farmhouse. The lambs are stylized yet expressive, their wool textured with light brushwork that gives them gentle dimension. The palette is soothing and balanced—cool blues in the sky, fresh greens in the field, and warm hints of pink and yellow that signal spring’s arrival.

The composition is open and airy, with ample negative space that enhances the peaceful atmosphere. In Timberneck, Moss allows the viewer to breathe within the landscape, creating a sense of calm and reflection.

Mood & Inspiration

The mood of Timberneck is one of tranquility, renewal, and pastoral innocence. Lambs have long symbolized gentleness, hope, and new beginnings, and Moss embraces that symbolism fully here. Their presence in the foreground anchors the piece emotionally, while the historic home in the distance represents stability and tradition.

Within the P. Buckley Moss Lamb Collection, themes of purity and rural charm are central. Combined with inclusion in the P. Buckley Moss Historic Landmark Collection, Timberneck becomes more than a pastoral scene—it becomes a tribute to America’s enduring agricultural and architectural legacy.

The artwork reflects Moss’s lifelong reverence for historic communities and the simple beauty of farm life. It invites viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the quiet rhythms of nature.
