Moss beautifully combines autumnal warmth with architectural heritage in this evocative scene. A charming blue house—Waynesville’s historic Stetson House—sets the stage for a whimsical tableau of pumpkins, black cats, and even a ghostly white figure, all layered in rich fall tones and delicate seasonal flora.

The Stetson House, built in 1810, originally belonged to a wagon maker and later became home to Louisa Stetson Larrick—sister of John B. Stetson, the inventor of the famed Stetson cowboy hat. While John was ill with tuberculosis, Louisa generously financed his hat venture, which launched what would become an American icon. Style & Technique

Moss brings the scene to life with layered, painterly strokes using warm oranges, earthy greens, and soft pastels that echo the changing autumn landscape. The blue hue of the Stetson House offers a harmonious contrast, while the cats—rendered in sleek, inky forms—and the faint, spectral figure add a playful and mysterious dimension. The giclée process ensures that every meticulously nuanced hue and texture remains vivid and archival-quality, with the artist’s signature and edition numbering adding to the print’s collectibility.

Beautiful piece. I own a lot of Ms Moss’s cat prints and the Stetson House five adorable black cats was a must have for my collection. It really is a stunning piece and hangs in my house every September to mid November.

Ah! The Stetson House is on our Waynesville, Ohio Main Street. There is so much history in our town and once when Pat Moss was in town for our gallery show, she saw the house and commented that she would like to paint it some day. That October she painted the house for our gallery show print and dressed it out for the Fall season. She should have put a cowboy hat on one of the trick or treaters since this was the home of the sister of the man that made the Stetson hats! Who knew, right?
