Maryland School For the Deaf

Maryland School for the Deaf is nestled among the old brick houses in the historic area of Frederick Maryland. The school was established in 1868 with 34 students and is dedicated to providing free public education for deaf or hard-of-hearing children from birth through age 21. The featured building is Hessian barracks which dates back to the Revolutionary War era when it housed captured Hessian soldiers. The building now serves as a historical museum for the school.
