Image of Peace by P. Buckley Moss

Introduction

Issued in 2013, Image of Peace is a limited edition numbered giclée that celebrates the quiet beauty of rural America through one of P. Buckley Moss’s most serene panoramic landscapes. A solitary red barn rests peacefully beyond a reflective pond, while graceful leafless trees mirror themselves in the still water. Through her signature soft palette and restrained composition, Moss transforms an ordinary countryside scene into a timeless expression of calm, balance, and rural simplicity.

Story Behind the Artwork

Rather than depicting the activity of farm life, Image of Peace invites viewers to appreciate the stillness that often defines the countryside. The expansive landscape, distant barn, and mirror-like pond suggest a place where nature and agriculture exist in quiet harmony.

While no documented artist statement explains Moss’s intentions for this print, the peaceful setting may remind collectors of moments when the countryside seems untouched by time. This interpretation is based on the visible imagery rather than a documented statement by the artist.

Symbols & Meaning

The distant red barn has long been recognized as a symbol of home, agricultural heritage, and the enduring traditions of rural America. The reflective pond introduces a sense of balance and tranquility, while the slender trees create rhythm and graceful movement throughout the composition.

The generous open space allows the landscape to breathe, encouraging quiet contemplation and appreciation for the simplicity of the natural world. Together, these familiar rural elements create an atmosphere of peace, reflection, and timeless beauty.

Artistic Details

P. Buckley Moss employs her signature watercolor-inspired palette of muted blues, warm earth tones, soft grays, and subtle rose hues to create a landscape filled with light and openness. Fine linework defines the elegant trees while broad, softly blended fields emphasize the vastness of the countryside.

The panoramic format naturally guides the viewer across the landscape from the reflections in the foreground to the distant barn, creating a balanced composition where every element contributes to the artwork’s quiet atmosphere.

🎨 Fun Fact

Perfect reflections on lakes and ponds occur when the water is exceptionally calm and undisturbed. Even a gentle breeze can ripple the surface and soften the mirrored image. Artists have long used these still reflections to create visual balance and a greater sense of depth, making tranquil water one of the most enduring elements in landscape painting.
