In Five Lambs Artist Proof, five delicate lambs are presented in a simple horizontal arrangement, each nearly identical yet subtly unique. Their small forms are adorned with softly patterned wool and accented with collars in varying colors, adding a playful touch of individuality. Each lamb faces the same direction, creating a rhythmic and almost musical visual flow across the composition.

The simplicity of the background—clean and uncluttered—draws full attention to the lambs themselves. This repetition not only emphasizes unity but also highlights the subtle differences between each figure, inviting the viewer to look more closely and appreciate the quiet nuances.

Five Lambs Artist Proof beautifully captures the innocence of animals, the charm of repetition, and the peaceful essence of pastoral life, making it both visually soothing and symbolically rich.

Style & Technique

Created as a lithograph, Five Lambs Artist Proof exemplifies Moss’s signature folk-art style, with simplified forms, clean lines, and a focus on composition over complexity. The lithographic medium allows for soft texturing in the lambs’ wool and gentle tonal variation.

Moss uses a light, neutral palette with soft grays, whites, and subtle accents of color in the collars, creating a harmonious and balanced visual experience. The repetition of form gives the piece a decorative quality, while the slight variations in each lamb maintain visual interest.

The horizontal layout makes this piece especially versatile, lending itself well to a variety of display options. The simplicity of the composition is both elegant and timeless.
