The warmth of the red brick and the graceful motion of the horses evoke the simple beauty of country living in the early 19th century.
Country Homestead honors the strength, independence, and devotion of America’s early settlers — themes that run deeply through Moss’s work. The artist’s love for heritage and preservation comes through in every careful line, giving collectors a meaningful connection to Ohio’s past.
Historical Background
The Crabill Homestead was built around 1826 and stands as one of the finest examples of early pioneer architecture in Clark County. Constructed from locally made brick, the home once belonged to the Crabill family, who settled in the Moorefield area during Ohio’s early statehood years.
Today, the Crabill Homestead is part of the National Trail Parks and Recreation District and has been restored to reflect 19th-century life. Surrounded by rolling meadows and overlooking C.J. Brown Reservoir, it remains a cherished historical landmark — a living reminder of Ohio’s agricultural roots and community spirit. Moss’s Country Homestead beautifully preserves that sense of continuity and belonging.
Style & Technique
Rendered in Moss’s signature folk-art style, Country Homestead blends delicate brushwork, subtle color layering, and expressive movement.
