Travellers Welcome
Traveller’s Welcome features The Lee House at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia. After the War Between the States ended in 1865, Confederate General Robert E. Lee became the president of what was then known as Washington College. The Lee House was built to house General Lee and his family, and a brick stable was attached off a back corner for Lee’s famous horse Traveller. General Lee served as the college’s president until he passed away in 1870, and Washington College was soon renamed Washington and Lee University. The home has housed the presidents of the university ever since.
