Style & Technique
Moss’s signature folk art style brings warmth and charm to Autumn at the Zoar Hotel. The giclée process preserves the richness of her watercolor washes and the clarity of her fine linework. The warm oranges and russet tones of the season contrast with the cool blues of the sky and the crisp white of the hotel’s walls, creating a harmonious balance. Moss’s figures, dressed in traditional attire, embody her trademark minimalism—small, graceful, and full of story—adding human warmth to the historic setting.
Mood & Inspiration
This artwork radiates nostalgia, gratitude, and reverence. Moss was inspired not only by America’s landscapes but also by its historic landmarks, which she saw as symbols of resilience, community, and continuity. In Autumn at the Zoar Hotel, the harvest elements—apples, pumpkins, and horses—combine with the landmark to express the timeless connection between people, place, and season. The scene invites viewers to imagine bustling autumn days filled with laughter, labor, and gathering.
